More than 30 elementary and secondary school teachers participated in a training workshop organized by SERC Chile (Solar Energy Research Center) and the Energy Sustainability Agency (AgenciaSE), with the goal of integrating energy education into teaching practices with a focus on human rights and equity.

The workshop, titled “Educational Tools on Energy Sustainability and Solar Energy for Use in the Classroom,” enabled teachers to strengthen their teaching skills related to the energy transition, as well as to learn about and apply educational resources related to solar thermal and photovoltaic energy.

During the workshop, held on October 22 at the University of Chile’s Energy Center, teachers from the municipalities of Renca and Quinta Normal participated in theoretical and practical sessions that covered concepts related to solar thermal and photovoltaic energy, energy efficiency, sustainability, and climate change. Through hands-on activities and the use of solar kits, they were able to explore methodologies that facilitate the interdisciplinary teaching of energy in the natural sciences, technology, and civic education.

Lorena Cornejo, Science and Society Coordinator at SERC Chile, noted that the goal was to strengthen teaching skills and provide appropriate teaching materials for each educational level. “We brought together teachers from the municipalities of Renca and Quinta Normal, who participated in theoretical and practical sessions focused on teaching about energy and the use of solar kits and experimental materials in the classroom,” she explained.

In addition, Marcela Guerrero, coordinator of AgenciaSE, participated in the event and presented the Educa Sostenible program, an initiative of the Ministry of Energy that aims to provide content, digital resources, and teaching materials for all educational levels, from preschool through technical-vocational high school.

Finally, Cornejo reported that the curriculum, educational materials, and teaching tools—for grades ranging from preschool through technical high school—are available free of charge on the website www.educasostenible.cl.
