With its first season on TVN, “Exploradores: del átomo al cosmos” succeeded in positioning the science developed in the country through everyday language, bringing people closer to topics that are unknown or difficult to understand.

SERC Chile will appear in the second season on April 5th.

On YouTube, astronomy enthusiasts can learn about the scientific and technological breakthroughs in this field, such as the discovery of Proxima b—the closest exoplanet in a habitable zone to Earth—or the way stars form in the universe, across three reports from the Center for Excellence in Astrophysics and Associated Technologies (CATA).

Likewise, robotics enthusiasts can enjoy “Robots made in Chile” from the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E), which showcases cars capable of autonomous decision-making and drones designed to save lives. The episode dedicated to AC3E also explored new biomedical systems that seek to decipher how our senses function to refine diagnoses and enhance outpatient medicine.

One of the major contributions of Exploradores is demonstrating how science is part of our daily life and that it is a powerful tool for improving our quality of life, which translates into a better relationship with the environment. An example of this was the episode dedicated to the Center for Climate and Resilience Science (CR)2, which provides a significant insight: Chile is among the 10 countries that will be most affected by the effects of climate change.

High levels of depression—which are well above the global average—and the myths and fears surrounding psychotherapy were also part of this season. How does genetics influence the predisposition to suffer from depression? Are Chileans more prone to depression? These are central questions in the episode from the Millennium Institute for Research in Depression and Personality (MIDAP).
