SERC Chile participated in this event by hosting an interesting workshop where children could learn how to build a solar collector mirror.

The "Explora Party: Chile Natural Laboratory" event was held at the Railroad Museum in Antofagasta and drew a large turnout from schools and institutions.

SERC Chile and the University of Antofagasta participated in a booth that provided information about solar energy storage technologies and also allowed the youngest visitors to build a solar collector mirror using educational materials. Children and young people of various ages were able to build a mirror and had fun working with the materials provided at the booth, which allowed them to see a practical application for this type of technology.

Ángel Fernández, a postdoctoral candidate in Line 4 (Solar Energy Storage, SERC Chile), commented on the importance of the activity. “It is possible to organize workshops that motivate children to learn more about science in an engaging and thoughtful way, so that they come to see it as something that is always present in their lives,” he explained.

The Dean of the University of Antofagasta highlighted the importance of this initiative, which allows the university to build closer ties with the community and to share information about these important topics. “It is a collaborative effort between the university, the academic community, the local community, and service providers. As long as this partnership exists, children and everyone else can learn about the importance of solar energy and how it can improve their quality of life,” he said.

The SERC Chile booth also featured various presentations on storage applications of different molten salts, among other projects.
