On July 31, at the La Moneda Cultural Center, Minister Máximo Pacheco provided an update on the planning process for “Energy 2050,” a committee tasked with defining a participatory energy policy with a long-term vision for the next 30 years. He also introduced the members of the advisory committee, four of whom are also members of SERC Chile.

“Energy 2050” aims to establish a shared vision for the future development of the national energy sector, along with the necessary social, political, and technical support to make this vision a reality. The project will run for the remainder of this year through 2015.

Minister Pacheco and Annie Dufey, head of the Division of Foresight and Energy Policy, explained the various aspects of the project to an audience of 300 people from various sectors of industry, academia, and civil society.

Members of “Energy 2050” will meet on various occasions over the next year and a half to finalize a strategy of goals for 2035 and an action plan through 2050. The advisory committee consists of 25 key stakeholders from various fields, including energy. Rodrigo Palma, Carlos Silva, Ronald Fischer, and Edward Fuentealba—distinguished members of SERC—are among the experts who make up this distinguished group.

Public participation is vital to the future of this project. The government has launched a virtual platform where interested parties can not only stay informed about the project’s progress but also get involved as stakeholders.
