On July 31, at the Cultural Center La Moneda, Minister Máximo Pacheco reported on the planning process for “Energy 2050,” a committee that seeks to define a participatory energy policy with a long-term vision for the next 30 years. He also introduced the members of the advisory committee, four of whom are also members of SERC Chile.

“Energy 2050” aims to build a shared vision for the future development of the national energy sector, along with the social, political, and technical support required to make this vision a reality. The project will run through the remainder of this year and 2015.

Minister Pacheco and Annie Dufey, head of the Division of Foresight and Energy Policy, explained the different facets of the project to an audience of 300 people from various sectors of industry, academia, and civil society.

Members of “Energy 2050” will convene at various times over the next year and a half to finalize a strategy of goals for 2035 and an action plan through 2050. The advisory committee consists of 25 key actors from distinct areas, including energy. Rodrigo Palma, Carlos Silva, Ronald Fischer, and Edward Fuentealba—distinguished SERC members—are among the experts who comprise this esteemed group.

Public participation is vital for the future of this project. The government has implemented a virtual platform where interested parties can not only stay informed about the project’s progress but also engage as active stakeholders.
