Within the framework of Enersol 2017, held in Antofagasta on October 5 and 6, 25 members of Task 1 of the PVPS—the Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme of the International Energy Agency (IEA)—also convened. The group, led by Gaetan Masson, participated with talks in the third edition of the Enersol solar forum and also held their three-and-a-half-day working meeting, which included a visit to the Jama Solar plant near Calama.

Task 1—dedicated to strategy and communication efforts—aims to promote and facilitate the exchange and dissemination of information on the environmental, technical, social, and economic aspects of photovoltaic power systems.

This meeting, the first PVPS meeting in Chile, featured significant participation from Chilean experts, including the Director of the Energy Center, Guillermo Jiménez; the Deputy Director, Marcelo Matus; and SERC Chile’s Innovation Manager, Bárbara Silva.

The meeting involved evaluating the state of the art of photovoltaic systems in the participants' countries. Representing Chile, Guillermo Jiménez presented two topics: microgrids and the status of the Chilean electricity market. Marcelo Matus spoke about the project he leads regarding the study of the solar spectrum in the Atacama Desert. Bárbara Silva explained the AtaMos-Tec project (Atacama Module and System Technology Center), which will develop technologies for the country's solar photovoltaic industry.

This meeting of Task 1 of the IEA-PVPS was funded by contributions from SERC Chile and organized by Ana María Ruz, Technological Development Director of the Solar Committee. Its importance lies in the fact that it presented the Chilean reality to representatives of world-renowned international centers, including the current situation and future projections in niche topics.
