This recognition consolidates SERC Chile's position as a benchmark in scientific research and applied knowledge development for the energy transition.

The 2025 Elsevier–Stanford Ranking recognized 15 researchers from the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC Chile), who are among the top 2% of the most-cited scientists in the world, according to standardized productivity and impact indicators developed from the university's database.

The study, developed by Stanford University and the Elsevier Data Repository, evaluates the global influence of more than 200,000 researchers from various disciplines, considering metrics such as citation count, co-authorship, and relevance within each research field.

Among the academics affiliated with SERC Chile recognized in the 2025 edition are Sapana Jadoun (Universidad de Tarapacá), from the Solar Water Treatment Research Line (RL1); Rodrigo Palma (Universidad de Chile), from the Energy Systems Research Line (RL2); and Svetlana Ushak (Universidad de Antofagasta), representing the Materials Science and Solar Resource Assessment Research Line (RL3).

They are joined by Samir Kouro, Marcelo Pérez, Carlos Restrepo, Mokhtar Aly, Margarita Norambuena, Sebastián Rivera, and Christian A. Rojas, all members of the Power Electronics and Energy Conversion Research Line (RL5), along with Luis Morán, José Espinoza, Willy Kracht, Rubén Peña, and Marco Rivera, distinguished in the Control Systems and Industrial Processes Research Line (RL7).

“It is very positive that SERC researchers are included in these internationally recognized indicators that have wide dissemination. It helps us highlight the committed work that the entire SERC team performs regarding Chile's solar future, which draws on the scientific evidence we help build,” stated Rodrigo Palma, director of SERC Chile.

These recognitions reflect the thematic diversity and scientific robustness of the work developed by SERC Chile, which ranges from solar resource characterization and energy conversion to the advanced management of power systems and industrial automation.

Some of the researchers were recognized for their cumulative career impact, while others for their recent output, highlighting the center's international relevance and standing.

Since its creation more than 13 years ago, SERC Chile has promoted a network of seven national universities, fostering interdisciplinary research and the training of advanced human capital to address the challenges of the energy transition.
The progress achieved by its researchers has contributed significantly to positioning Chile as a global leader in solar energy, with a photovoltaic capacity that now exceeds 11.27 GW, compared to less than 1 MW at the beginning of the 2010s.
