The website Reporte Sostenible published a column on Green Hydrogen by Professor Rodrigo Palma, one of the leaders of the Energy Storage research line.

Palma states there:

“H2 is called green when its generation does not emit carbon dioxide. This requires a clean energy source to supply electrical energy to an electrolyzer, a device capable of separating the water molecule into hydrogen and oxygen. In fact, to generate one kg of H2, around 50 kWh of electrical energy and 9 L of water are required.

This is where the first major opportunity for Chile arises, given our immense potential for low-cost renewable energy (solar, wind, etc.). For reference, the country's solar potential exceeds 1,800 GW, while today there is a total generation capacity across all technologies of only 25 GW (72 times!!)”.
