The Solar Map was launched on November 21 in the Hall of Honor of the Concepción City Hall. It was developed by a research team from the Universidad del Bío-Bío, the Universidad de Concepción, and Finland’s Aalto University, with support from CONICYT and the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters (Project CON*FIN AKA-ERNC 007).

The map (available at msc.ubiobio.cl) enables residents to identify their homes, the solar radiation received, and the estimated household savings resulting from the installation of various systems. Its primary distinction from other urban solar cadasters is that it identifies different building typologies and correlates them with actual consumption, thereby allowing for the characterization of building solar capacity.

Additionally, the project involves continuous monitoring of the performance of various equipment in field tests to evaluate new technologies and provide reliable system data, aimed at promoting energy self-generation and the development of more sustainable cities.
