In December 2016, Samir Kouro received notification of his promotion to Senior Member, an honor held by only 9% of the 428,000 members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

“This is a recognition of both the quality of the work we perform at UTFSM and at the centers of excellence in which I participate (SERC and AC3E), as well as the caliber of the teams I have the honor of being part of. This demonstrates that in Chile we can conduct world-class science, development, and innovation when we work with passion, perseverance, and a commitment to quality,” said the researcher.

The organization highlights that achieving this grade requires a nomination and the fulfillment of several criteria. Candidates must be engineers, scientists, professors, technical executives, or originators in IEEE-designated fields. Additionally, they must demonstrate professional maturity and a proven track record of at least 10 years, evidenced by significant contributions to their field of expertise.

Samir Kouro leads the SERC research line on solar energy in industry and mining and has achieved significant milestones in renewable energy conversion systems, primarily in photovoltaics and wind power.
