The "Science Hunters" program traveled to the Norte Grande region to explore the potential of solar energy for electricity generation and water purification techniques.

The search for areas in our country that are particularly well-suited to serve as natural laboratories led the team from the TVN program *Cazadores de Ciencia: Chile: Laboratorio Natural* to travel to the Norte Grande region, where they discovered the work being done by the University of Tarapacá to harness solar energy for water treatment.

Accompanied by Lorena Cornejo, the principal investigator of Research Line 5: Solar Water Treatment, *Cazadores de Ciencia* had the opportunity to learn about one of the center’s projects. This project involves the mobile water decontamination unit in the municipality of Camarones, which aims to remove high concentrations of arsenic, boron, and pathogenic organisms that are harmful to health.

This is the only mobile water treatment unit that harnesses the power of the sun, making this technology available to improve the well-being of this rural community, as well as other communities throughout Chile facing the same problem.

During the program, SERC Chile explained its interest in developing solar energy to integrate it into its activities and thereby improve people's lives; it also highlighted the Atacama Desert's unique potential—unmatched anywhere else in the world—which could even allow for the export of solar energy to the rest of the region.
