On November 3, the lecture series “How Powerful Is the Sun: What You Need to Know About Solar Energy” begins. The series is presented by the SERC Chile solar energy research center and sponsored by the Ministry of Energy.

The series is free and will be held via Zoom every Wednesday in November (the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th), from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Claudia Rahmann, the director of this center and a professor at the University of Chile, emphasizes that this initiative aims to “promote understanding of solar energy among men and women over the age of 14 who have no prior knowledge of the subject but are interested in learning about it.”

The first lecture, on Wednesday, the 3rd, will be given by David Contreras, a professor at the University of Concepción. He will begin the series by discussing the most important concept in solar energy: how the Sun’s energy is generated, how it reaches Earth, and how photons are captured and converted into energy.

The second talk, on Wednesday the 10th, is about green hydrogen, its storage, its potential, and its various uses. Professor Eduardo Schott of the Catholic University will give this talk.

Professor Claudia Rahmann will lead the talk on Wednesday, the 17th, on the ways in which solar energy is converted into electricity and the benefits these technologies will bring in the context of climate change.

The series concludes on November 24 with a talk by Alejandro Cabrera, a professor at the Metropolitan Technological University. He will describe the types of water pollution, conventional decontamination processes, and solar treatment methods that can be applied to water reuse.

Those who participate in all four talks will receive a certificate of attendance.
