On November 3, the lecture series “How Powerful is the Sun: what you should know about solar energy” will begin, organized by the solar energy research center SERC Chile, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Energy.

The series is free of charge and will take place via Zoom every Wednesday in November (3, 10, 17, and 24), from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The center's director and academic at the Universidad de Chile, Claudia Rahmann, highlights that this initiative seeks to “foster knowledge of solar energy among men and women over 14 years of age who have no prior knowledge but do have an interest in learning.”

The first lecture, on Wednesday the 3rd, will be given by Professor David Contreras from the Universidad de Concepción. He will open the series with the fundamental concept of solar energy: how the Sun's energy is generated, how it reaches the Earth, and how photons are captured for transformation into energy.

The second lecture, on Wednesday the 10th, covers Green Hydrogen, its storage, potential, and various applications. This talk will be delivered by Professor Eduardo Schott from the Universidad Católica.

Professor Claudia Rahmann will lead the lecture on Wednesday the 17th, addressing the ways in which solar energy is converted into electricity and the benefits these technologies generate within the context of climate change.

The series concludes on November 24 with a lecture by Professor Alejandro Cabrera from the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana. He will describe types of water pollution, conventional decontamination processes, and solar treatments that can be applied to water reuse.

Those who participate in all four lectures will receive a certificate of attendance.
