With the purpose of alleviating the effects of the pandemic by providing an opportunity for learning and entertainment, SERC Chile donated 520 copies of “Con ustedes… el Sol” to institutions serving children who are hospitalized, undergoing complex medical treatment, or under State guardianship.

The Roberto del Río, Exequiel González Cortés, and Sótero del Río hospitals; the Con Todo el Corazón Hospital School, located within the Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital; Sename; and Teletón received the books for distribution to children and also to be kept as reference material in their libraries.

At the Con Todo el Corazón Hospital School, children who require special care study, as they are unable to attend other schools due to their health conditions. Its director, Constanza Labbé, received a shipment of books. “We are convinced that they will be of great help and support, both for scientific knowledge and appreciation, and for the motivation and learning of the children and youth at our School,” she stated in the thank-you letter sent to the director of SERC Chile, Claudia Rahmann.

At the Sótero del Río Hospital, the management assigned the books to the NiNEAS team (Children with Special Health Needs) and to Pediatric Nephrology. Dr. Ana María Cabezas, from NiNEAS, expressed her gratitude, as did Dr. Sonia Márquez, from Nephrology. At that hospital, copies were delivered to Infectology (Pediatric AIDS), the Inpatient Unit, and the CRAI (Center for Pediatric Auditory Rehabilitation).

At the Exequiel González Cortés Hospital, its director, Dr. Inés Araneda, received the donation and highlighted that they will be helpful “for the entertainment and learning of our patients during their hospitalization.”

At the Roberto del Río Hospital, the books were assigned to Neurology, the Children's Oncology Unit, and the Pediatric AIDS Program. They were received with gratitude by the head of the Infectology Unit, Dr. Mirta Acuña. Psychologist Marcela Mesina, who works in the Pediatric AIDS program, mentioned that “Con ustedes… el Sol” has been highly valued by the children, “as it is beautiful and very educational.”

The National Service for Minors, Sename, also distributed the books across its regional centers. Its acting director, Claudia De La Hoz, highlighted the donation: “It is undoubtedly very valuable, as it allows us to bring science and knowledge of solar energy closer in a playful and entertaining way, especially in times of COVID-19 when more learning tools are required. It is a material that we will put to full use.”

Teletón distributed its copies to the libraries of its 13 centers across the country. Aldo Orrigoni, Director of Teletón Volunteering—under which the libraries operate—stated that for them “it is very important to place the centers at the service of education, culture, and the family.”
