The national conference organized by the Ministry of Science highlighted the role of knowledge in countering misinformation and brought together more than 1,200 people in the region.
The Solar Energy Research Center (SERC Chile) actively participated in the 2025 Science Festival, the main public celebration of knowledge organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation (CTCi), which this year drew thousands of people from across Chile under the slogan “Learning is a celebration, too.”
With a free program, this event aims to bring science and technology closer to the public, promoting critical thinking, curiosity, and reflection. In its 2025 edition, the focus was on the global challenge of misinformation and the role of knowledge as a tool for distinguishing between false information and reliable evidence.
Thus, from September 27 to 29, SERC Chile was part of the event’s program of activities, which brought together more than 1,200 people for interactive sessions, workshops, and exhibits that demonstrated how science can contribute to a more informed, self-reliant, and sustainable society.
Alexia Vásquez, the CTCi Regional Minister for Arica and Parinacota, praised the center’s contribution to the event. “The Science Festival brought together representatives from various organizations, who were able to showcase their scientific and technological developments to the 1,200 people who attended on Sunday. Events like these are opportunities that spark interest and curiosity, which is why it’s essential that we continue to create these spaces. I thank SERC Chile for its willingness to participate in the event.”
According to Lorena Cornejo, coordinator of the Science and Society division at SERC Chile, “our participation is in response to an invitation from the SEREMI of CTCi, an initiative that allows us to share scientific knowledge with diverse audiences. In our specific case, it involves raising awareness about solar technologies and their applications throughout the region.”
The SERC Chile booth showcased progress in the use of solar energy in the northern part of the country and its application in research, education, and technology transfer projects. The initiative helped raise awareness among students, families, and visitors about the potential of this clean energy source, which is strategic for the region’s sustainable development.
About the Science Festival
The 2025 Science Festival took place simultaneously across all regions of the country, with 16 Science Festivals held at iconic venues such as the Mirador Interactive Museum (Santiago), Plaza Victoria (Valparaíso), Ecuador Park (Concepción), and the Railroad Museum (Temuco).
In Arica and Parinacota, the event was supported by the CTCi Regional Ministerial Secretariat (SEREMI), the Regional Government, and various academic institutions, reinforcing northern Chile’s commitment to science outreach and the decentralization of knowledge.
