The television program Cazadores de Ciencia (Science Hunters) traveled to the Norte Grande to understand the potential of solar energy for power generation and water decontamination techniques.

The search for privileged regions in Chile that serve as natural laboratories led the television program Cazadores de Ciencia, Chile: Laboratorio Natural (Science Hunters, Chile: Natural Laboratory) to the Norte Grande, where they explored the solar-powered water treatment research conducted at the Universidad de Tarapacá.

Lorena Cornejo, a researcher for Research Line 5 (Solar Water Treatment), presented one of the primary projects to Cazadores de Ciencia: the mobile water decontamination unit in the Camarones district, which aims to eliminate high levels of arsenic, boron, and pathogenic organisms harmful to health.

This is the only mobile unit that harnesses solar power for water treatment, making this technology accessible for the well-being of rural communities and other Chilean districts facing similar challenges.

The episode highlighted SERC Chile's focus on the development of solar energy for everyday applications to improve quality of life, as well as the unique global potential of the Atacama Desert, which could even facilitate the export of solar energy to the rest of the region.
