The exhibition of the Eolian I solar car has been a success at the 2014 CONICYT Technology Fair, taking place today and tomorrow, October 7, at the Plaza de la Constitución.

Visitors, including many students, have had the opportunity to learn about the vehicle’s history, technical specifications, and autonomy through explanations provided by the students and researchers in charge, who are available to address questions from the public.

“The solar car has piqued the interest of both children and adults, who have inquired about its design, autonomy, speed limits, and competitive record. It has served as an effective tool for educating the public on the potential of solar energy in the country,” noted José Antonio Marín, one of the project leads.

The public presentation of the Eolian informs visitors that this is the first solar car in Latin America and the Caribbean. Developed in 2007 by students of electrical and mechanical engineering and industrial design, the project is currently in its fourth version. This model will feature four wheels, a two-passenger capacity, and the capability to travel 350 km per day at an average speed of 70 km/h. The vehicle is set to travel from Arica to Punta Arenas to promote the use of solar energy across Chile.

The Eolian 4 two-seater solar car exhibit, sponsored by the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile and SERC Chile, is one of 26 technology-oriented projects showcased at this fair. These initiatives aim to develop medical treatments, optimize the use of natural resources, support people with disabilities, disseminate scientific knowledge, and enhance industrial processes.
