The appointed commission visited six primary and preschool educational institutions to provide them with the opportunity to acquire knowledge about solar energy.

Representing SERC Chile (Solar Energy Research Center), a team of professionals visited and toured at least 6 primary and preschool educational institutions in the city of Arica to distribute books to each establishment, featuring age-appropriate texts explaining solar energy in the country and outer space.

In this activity, more than 900 students who currently attend vulnerable schools in the Arica and Parinacota region benefited from the distribution of the books “Con Ustedes el Sol” and “El Sol”.

“We are very proud of the work carried out by SERC Chile during these 11 years, and we believe that these products aimed at children are very relevant, as they allow us to reach younger generations and foster their interest in science. Through our work, we have supported 632 students at the José Abelardo Agricultural High School located in Arica in the Azapa Valley, 140 at the General Manuel Baquedano School, 24 at the Molinos School, 80 at the Valle de Chaca School, 8 at the Valle de Cuya School, and 27 at the Valle de Camarones School. Furthermore, we will continue distributing this educational material this year in Camarones, Putre, and Gral. Lagos,” specified the coordinator of SERC Chile's Science and Society area, Lorena Cornejo.

Likewise, she explained that the educational materials seek to reinforce learning about solar energy and its applications by adapting them to this age group and providing them with access to resources that complement their education in more adverse conditions.

During the event, the educational community expressed its frustration at the delay in the implementation of electric power, as the lack of electricity directly affected the quality of education. “Thanks to these efforts through the distribution of educational materials, for example, students at the Valle de Chaca School now have the opportunity to acquire knowledge about solar energy, the primary source of energy they have used for more than 10 years through solar panels,” Cornejo indicated.

 In this way, SERC Chile seeks to sow a future where solar energy is fundamental to community development, thus positioning this school as a benchmark where education and solar energy can go hand in hand to forge a better tomorrow.
